FAQ’s
What is Vmerse?
Vmerse is the new “virtual immersion” 3D campus tour for the University of Michigan based on photographs and architectural drawings of the campus.
Why do I get an error message when I try to install the program?
To avoid this, Please make ensure the installer (.exe or.dmg) download is complete. If you have interrupted the download, you may delete the partially installed file and download it again. Each download is approximately 60 MB.
What if the installer is fully downloaded, but I am still getting an error message when I try to install?
The Vmerse requires administrative rights on your computer to install and run the program. If you get an error message when you try to install to the default location, please try to install to another location on your hard-disk. If you are still unable to install the program please get a user with administrative rights to install the software on that computer. Otherwise, you may try to install on a different computer for which you have administrative access.
Why am I not able to login, even when I created an account?
Check the email account you used for your login and look for an email from support@vmerse.com. You will need to click the link to activate your account and then try to login again.
What if I do not see an email from support@vmerse.com?
It is possible that the email got diverted to your spam or junk-mail folder. Please add support@vmerse.com to your address book for future use.
My computer is running very slow, and I am not able to move around in the Vmerse. Why is this happening?
Please refer to the System Requirements to see if your computer meets the recommended specifications. Since the Vmerse software is a highly computationally demanding program, your computer’s system will affect the outcome of the Vmerse. You may try to close any other applications to free up your computer's resources for Vmerse. Also, if you are on a laptop, you will experience a faster Vmerse if you plug it in.
Why can’t I talk to other avatars in Vmerse?
We have limited users ability to freely interact in the Vmerse due to security concerns. You are able to use gestures to interact with other avatars when you see them throughout the Vmerse; also, IM-style chatting is available to guests taking part in events, which are supervised by a U-M representative.
Why isn’t the entire campus in the Vmerse?
We have selected parts of campus that we feel would be most beneficial to prospective freshman and transfer students because they are representative of the entire campus. We hope to continue to digitize more of campus in upcoming releases of the Vmerse.
I can’t figure out how to walk around/answer trivia/change from 1st person to 3rd person view/etc.
We recommend taking a few moments to walk through the introduction, which explains the basics on how to move and interact in the Vmerse. After that, try reading our instructions, located in the help menu. These may provide more information on your specific problem.
Why am I not able to hear the bots (characters in the yellow t-shirts) talking?
Although the bots are animated to “talk,” they do not have any audio recording/narration.
What if I get disconnected from the Vmerse?
Please remember that the Vmerse software requires a constant and stable high speed connection; if you are on wireless the connection may have been disrupted.
