The best study spots on campus for every need
Whether you are already on campus or an incoming freshman, your location can make or break a study session. Exploring the campus and finding which study spots make you the most efficient can ease your academic transition to U-M. Try these out for yourself—maybe you’ll find a new favorite study spot.
If you are the kind of person who needs to change up your study location often or have been meaning to try something new, look no further!
Best of the UGLI - Everyone has a favorite spot at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library (UGLI). Some prefer a little background noise and studying with friends on the 1st floor while others need absolute silence and opt for the 4th. My favorite? The reading room on the 3rd floor. There is nearly always an open spot even during busy hours and it's typically quiet, but not too quiet.
For the Foodie – Maizie’s in the League has a pretty extensive menu for those who like to snack and study. They also accept Blue Bucks and Dining Dollars loaded on your MCard for added convenience.
Best lighting - If you have a chance to study in Ross during the day, the glass windows bring in great natural lighting to keep your mood and energy high.
Most empty - The Social Work Community Work Space in the School of Social Work has become one of my all-time favorite study spots for when I really need to get work done. It can get a little busy in the early afternoon, but I can always find a seat.
For coffee fanatics - Espresso Royale on South University Avenue is one of my top study spaces for a couple of reasons. First, it’s the best coffee for your money on campus and they’ll even knock off 50 cents if you bring in your own mug. They also have a microwave to keep your coffee warm when you know you’re going to be studying for long hours, and extra seating in the basement.
Best on North Campus - Although I don’t typically venture to North Campus, the 3rd Floor of the multimedia building, the Duderstadt Center, known as the “Dude,” is a great spot for those who do!
Most underrated spot - Panera Bread has the same cozy draws as many hybrid cafes in Ann Arbor—but did you know they have a basement, too? If you ever stop by and can’t seem to find a seat, head downstairs and discover a secret study area.
Best aesthetics - If you’re looking for inspiration or lacking motivation, you can find seating in the back of the first floor of the UMMA.

During the year, she keeps busy managing the Michigan Refugee Assistance Program and working as a trainer at Rec Sports.
