The sun is shining and the trees are in bloom, spring is finally here. Your classes are coming to an end and soon your friends will be more than a walk away. Despite the wonderfully approaching summer break, there is still time to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend time with friends. If you are wondering about friendtivities or seeing what the outdoors have to offer, keep reading.

Studying

The approaching summer means relaxation, maybe a bustling internship, and finals. Everyone understands that encroaching deadlines can be hectic and anxiety inducing, yet some of the tools to manage these stresses are found in the outdoors. Fresh air, the sun, and animals can reduce stress and improve your mood. Taking time to camp out at a study spot near the Diag or in the Law Quad can increase your vitamin D levels, induce calmness, and generate positive emotions. Outdoor studying is also a chance for you to meet new people and generate conversation with friends. If you are taking a study break, don’t be afraid to venture around and see what your fellow peers are up to.

Foodie

With warm weather follows outdoor seating provided by your future favorite restaurants. Spring is the perfect time for a long stroll around the corner or to downtown Ann Arbor. The lively area gives you a chance to enjoy the weather and your delicious food. Ann Arbor is beautiful on and off campus with numerous shops and restaurants. Take the time to clear your head, explore local architecture, and move your body. There are endless offerings of different foods, allowing you to try new things and expand your palate.

Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum

You are not a U-M student if you do not visit the “Arb” (aka  Nichols Arboretum). The beautiful greenery is available for everyone to enjoy from sunrise to sunset. Many gather in groups to explore the vast trees and observe the numerous species that inhabit the landscape. There are spots for those who would like to chat, read, or listen to music. Explorers can hike multiple trails and spot something new each time. Mattaei Botanical Gardens transports you to a tropical landscape filled with climate-controlled weather and a diverse array of plants. This lovely space encourages you to learn about different plant life and enjoy a calming atmosphere. Those who are interested in exploring nature but are unsure where to start can sign up for free events such as wonder walks and art exhibits on the Matthaei Botanical Gardens website.

The end of the year does not mean the end of fun. There’s an array of places to explore and things to try. If you are looking for some natural connections, start by stepping out your door.
