At orientation U-M students walk through the fountain outside of the Michigan League. The tradition says that new students must walk toward the Diag and campus to start their learning journey, and upon graduation, they should walk through the fountain the toward Rackham Graduate School to symbolize that they have joined the graduate or professional world.
